Hi guys! As you've noticed, my last post was already two weeks ago. I had been busy with school stuff and also with family matters, hence I did not have the time or energy to post in this blog. :P

Ice Age 4: Continental Drift.. My friend and I watched this in SM Novaliches. It was my first time ever going inside that mall. I liked the new experience! I can't help but compare it with the SM here in Marikina. I like the atmosphere - the upper windows were glasses hence there would be no need of lights during the daytime; there's also that feeling wherein you feel like you can breathe properly. I mean, I always had this weird feeling of being suffocated in some malls especially the small ones with overcrowded shops and stalls, etc. Moreover, its cinema house was like one of the best I've been to! :D I think it surpasses even those in SM Mall of Asia. If not for the newly upgraded lounge chairs of SM North Edsa, I think I may consider SM Novaliches' cinema house the best. There were no isles or divisions, just a straight block of comfortable chairs in the middle plus the screen and sound system were just superb. No hassles, no extra grounded sounds and the images occupy the entire screen. If I only live in that area, I think I would have a great cinema experience all the time. xD The only downside of it was they only have four cinemas so the films being shown are just limited. :/

Review:
Scrat's (voiced by Chris Wedge) neverending pursuit of the almighty acorn leads him to the Earth's core, where he inadvertently causes prehistoric Earth's single super continent Pangaea, to break up into smaller pieces.

Before things literally fall apart, Manny (Ray Romano) and his wife, Ellie (Queen Latifah), must deal with typical adolescent defiance from their teen daughter, Peaches (Keke Palmer), who wants to impress heartthrob mammoth Ethan (Drake), even if it means dumping her faithful best friend, a mole hog named Louis (Josh Gad).

When the Earth begins to shake, Manny, Diego the saber-toothed tiger (Denis Leary), Sid the goofy sloth (John Leguizamo), and his senile Granny (Wanda Sykes) are stuck on an iceberg that flows out to sea, where they encounter a band of pirates led by the menacing Captain Gutt (Peter Dinklage), an ape with no interest in the trio's desire to reunite with the rest of their herd.

Ice Age: Continental Drift does not have an amazing and unique plot yet you'd find yourself treating the characters as if they are your comfort food - overly familiar. Manny, Sid and Diego, the trio, are now adults yet, the call of adventure is still upon them. On the other hand, Scrat's screen time in this film is the longest so far compared to the previous installments. Not that I'm complaining since Scrat's appearance in the screen is an assurance of funny scenes and laughter from the audience.

I think the film's animation is really effective in 3D since the setting is in the sea. But since I did not watch this in 3D, I can't further comment on the matter. The addition of characters is positive for me, especially Sid's grandma who is really effective in adding humor to the whole film. I also like Shira, the pirate tigress who somehow develops a low-key love story with Diego.

The storyline is bit flimsy but, the morals present are enough to make up for that, for me at least. Throughout the film, the importance of family connection and friendship are reinforced. Some points about adolescence are also emphasized which I think is not really effective since the major audience of this film are kids who at the most only watched the film because of the animation and nothing more. While Ice Age: Continental Drift was not the best animated film, all in all, it is a fun film to watch and is sure to please the kids and also maybe, those kids at heart.

  1. Nope! My kids didn’t like this movie. It was a busy day, I came back home from work and my kids wanted to watch this movie. I took them out for the movie but I had to compensate it by showing series by Andy Yeatman that were worth watching.
