"8 years after the events of The Dark Knight find Gotham at a time of peace. This is due to Batman taking the fall for Harvey Dent's murder. However, a new evil force named Bane has arrived in Gotham and aims to take over the city and expose the truth behind who Harvey Dent really was. Now that Wayne Manor has been completely rebuilt - Bruce Wayne has become almost reclusive, rarely leaving the estate. And with Bane taking over the city by force, it forces Batman to come out of retirement. But his allies are few and far apart. An elusive jewel thief by the name of Selina Kyle could be the key to stopping Bane - but whose side is she on?"

Hello everyone! I've been MIA these past few weeks because of the holiday season but here is a new post for the new year! Cheers to 2013! :D For today, I will share my review of a movie close to my heart. Why? Because my all time favorite Hollywood actress Anne Hathaway nailed this film. Yup, as Selina Kyle, Anne Hathway was acclaimed for her amazing portrayal of the Catwoman, even stealing the show from Bruce Wayne/Batman himself. Teehee! What more? Gary Oldman as Commissioner Gordon - seriously I did not recognize him at first. That's why I was totally ashamed for being his fan, not knowing how he looks like other than being Sirius Black in Harry Potter. And also, for watching the film without knowing the whole cast first. :P

Review:
The Dark Knight Rises, is a 2012 superhero film directed by Christopher Nolan, featuring he DC Comics character Batman. The film is the final installment in Nolan's Batman trilogy, and it is the sequel to Batman Begins (2005) and The Dark Knight (2008).

Gotham city is now safe and complacent since Harvey Dent's death eight years ago. Batman (Christopher Bale), who defeated the nemesis of the city but was blamed for it, has retired to his mansion in a state of incognito. A young inquisitive cop named John Blake (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) questions the details of Dent's death, even Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman), who knows the truth, brushes him off. But Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway) warns that there's a storm coming. When we meet Bane in a stunning aerial sequence that opens the movie, we know it's only a matter of time before he comes looking not just to break Batman, but to bring Gotham to its knees.

The film has a relatively simple plot. I think the time-ticking bomb twist is already overused. There are quite a lot of unnecessary scenes for me, that I didn't quite understand  what's at stake and who's threatening at first. There were characters whose sides and goals were puzzling - especially Bane's motives and Batman's motivation to jump back into action. But then, it's their involvement in the story line that added spice to the film. Batman may return to Gotham city but I think he wasn't one of the most interesting characters in his own film. John Blake did most of the detective work to fix the problem. Selina Kyle a.k.a Catwoman's selfish agenda in the beginning - the film's catalyst, leads to Batman's removal from the scene so that Bane can put Gotham into chaos.

Personally, I applaud Anne Hathaway's portrayal of Catwoman. Many people say that she stole the show from Bruce Wayne/Batman, although some critics disagreed with her casting at first - probably because of the fact she was a goody-goody Genovian princess before turning to a bad-girl/cat-burglar now.

The film is fine but I can't understand what Bane was saying most of the time because he's wearing a mask through out the whole film. He was somewhat shunned as a sidekick when Miranda Tate's (Marion Cotillard) identity was revealed in the end. I also think that her death was not dramatic enough. She escaped the prison as a child, showed her true colors in a short time and just died in a car accident.

The film's action is great but most importantly, The Dark Knight Rises wraps in satisfying fashion, even if it may take a little while to fully grab you. There are some bumps along the way - it’s by no means perfect, and doesn't hit the same heights The Dark Knight did – but Nolan’s done good.
